Japanese Tomb Found To House Rare Artifacts From Roman Empire:

Glass jewelry thought to have been made in the Roman Empire has been found in a very unlikely place -- an ancient Japanese tomb.

Researchers from Japan's Nara National Research Institute for Cultural Properties announced Friday that three glass beads recovered from a Fifth Century burial site near Kyoto bear signs of Roman craftsmanship. This suggests that Roman influence reached as far as East Asia.

"They are one of the oldest multilayered glass products found in Japan, and very rare accessories that were believed to be made in the Roman Empire and sent to Japan," researcher Tomomi Tamura told AFP.

Gioielli in vetro che si pensa siano stati prodotti durante l'Impero Romano sono stati rinvenuti in  un luogo molto improbabile - una tomba antica giapponese.

Ricercatori di Nara Istituto di Ricerca Nazionale del Giappone per Beni Culturali hanno annunciato Venerdì che tre perle di vetro recuperato da un quinto luogo di sepoltura secolo nei pressi di Kyoto portano i segni di artigianato romano. Questo suggerisce che l'influenza romana raggiunse il lontano orientale.

"Si tratta di uno dei più antichi prodotti in vetro multistrato che si sia trovano in Giappone, e gli accessori molto rari che si credeve  essere realizzati  durante l'Impero Romano e inviati in Giappone," ha dichiarto il ricercatore Tomomi Tamura all'AFP.  (...)
